Happy Book Birthday, Tell Someone!

When I’m worried,

When I’m grateful,

When I’m nervous,

When I’m brave…

It feels good to tell someone.

No matter what we are experiencing in life, we can navigate our emotions better when we talk about it with someone that we trust.

TELL SOMEONE - the second picture book of the year from Troupe author Debra Kempf Shumaker - is a story that encourages readers to share what they are feeling.

Whether emotions are happy or sad - or scary or uncomfortable - they can be really hard to handle. In this powerful new picture book, illustrated with brightness and clarity by Tristan Yuvienco (Albert Whitman), readers are reminded that they always can TELL SOMEONE.

And now, we are so excited to tell YOU… that TELL SOMEONE arrives on shelves today!

Welcome to the parade,

Can you share a bit more about TELL SOMEONE, Debra?

This book almost didn't happen. In January of 2020, an editor from Albert Whitman had asked my first agent if she had any writers who would be interested in writing a book on spec—they wanted a book to encourage kids to share their feelings across a variety of situations. My agent thought of me since I had written a different PB where I address some tough emotions. But when she called me, the idea of writing a book on spec—especially on a topic that was out of my comfort zone—scared me, so I told her I needed to think about it. But as soon as we hung up, I remembered some advice from an SCBWI conference years earlier that you always say YES to an opportunity, then figure it out. So I emailed my agent a few minutes later that I would certainly give it a shot. And I'm glad I did.

The winner will be chosen at random and announced Oct. 8, 2021.

If you’ve entered, you’re all set! But don’t leave just yet…
